Dr. Hikichi specialized in biotechnology, biology, medical science and dentistry, foods, and beverages.

During his bachelor’s and master’s courses, he majored in systems biology and bioinformatics, and conducted research on signaling pathways. In his doctoral course, he was a member of the plant physiological ecology laboratory where he earned his degree by applying previous research on plant life history to anthropology.
