Japanese IP rights, for example, patents, can be enforced only in Japan. Many people have PCs, car navigation systems, smartphones, and other network devices. When a server computer of a system is outside Japan, it is unclear whether or not it is possible to argue direct infringement. Over these past 3 or 4 years, there are several decisions at the Japanese courts related to this question.
