Mr. Kuroda’s practice is primarily dedicated to representing foreign companies seeking patent protection in Japan. He advises international clients on navigating the specific requirements and procedural practices of the Japanese patent system, with a focus on maximizing the strength, clarity, and enforceability of Japanese patents.
With a strong technical background in mechanical, electromechanical, and industrial technologies, Mr. Kuroda supports foreign applicants throughout the Japanese patent process, from initial filings based on foreign priority applications through examination. He also has experience in post-grant procedures, invalidation trials, and opinion work, including freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses.
Mr. Kuroda’s primary technical fields include aircraft, vehicles, production and assembly machinery, vessels, heat engines, packaging and containers, plants, livingware, office machines, material processing machinery, precision instruments, medical appliances and devices, electrical instruments, consumer electronic products, and control and mechatronics technologies.
